Giving Goalies What They Want
Every time we post content about our clear Ion lacrosse head, goalies everywhere chime in saying, “When are we getting a goalie version?” It’s the most common comment we receive – and we’re finally delivering: a clear goalie head built for performance. To be more specific, this is our Impact goalie head featuring our high-performance Diamond plastic.
Designed to Improve Goalie Head Performance
While many of the requests for the Impact Diamond were specifically because of the look, we knew if we were going to launch the product, it also had to have real performance benefits. So we looked at some issues goalies were facing, and one that stood out to us was warping over time. Goalie heads take constant abuse over a season – high-velocity shots, thousands of clamps, temperature swings – and over time, that stress can cause warping. This warping can lead to inconsistencies in how the head reacts to getting hit with a ball, how the head feels when throwing outlet passes, and the overall ability to make saves. Our testing showed that Diamond Plastic significantly improves warp resistance, helping the Impact Diamond maintain its shape and consistency all season long.
What’s so Special about Diamond Plastic?
For years, we have been researching and testing different plastics, looking for attributes that will directly translate into improved performance for players on the field. Through this research, we discovered our Diamond Plastic. This plastic has a super low density (it’s really lightweight), it looks amazing, and it does an incredible job fighting warping (keeping your stick more consistent all season). These characteristics made the plastic a prime candidate for offensive heads and goalie heads. We introduced the Diamond Plastic to the lacrosse world in 2022 with the Ion - the most popular offensive head in lacrosse. That project proved to us that there was a real on-field benefit to our Diamond Plastic and gave us the confidence to start pursuing making our Impact Goalie Head with Diamond Plastic.
Testing: On the Field and in the Lab
As soon as we started making Impact Diamonds, the lab results showed us a significant jump in warp resistance and gave us more confidence to put these heads in players’ hands. The on-field feedback was excellent. There was initial hesitation from players who felt the heads were going to be too flexible or not durable enough based on their look, but those players gave the heads a shot and quickly saw the benefits. The word spread, and more and more goalies began to request Impact Diamonds. Our testing was complete!
The Impact Diamond has Arrived
With a clear vision of improved performance and field testing to back it, we are proud to introduce the Impact Diamond. Although this is a limited release, it will be a huge stepping stone towards our next generation of goalie products.

Greg and the rest of the ECD staff has been nothing short but amazing. They were nice enough to send me the Diamond impact early on this year to test out and use. I can confidently say it is The Best goalie head that I have ever used. Playing at a high level requires the best equipment, and ECD never seems to disappoint. It is still going strong and has held its shape incredibly through wear and tear. With its sleek look and comfortable shape, it is complemented with how light it is.
