Ion Beta Lacrosse Head: Improving Durability Without Adding Weight
TLDR: The Ion Beta features our new Diamond Pro plastic. This plastic is lighter than the original Diamond plastic and provides 2x durability. These heads have been tested in our lab, and those results were confirmed by 8 months of field testing with the country's best players.
Designed to Improve Lacrosse Head Durability
The Ion Beta is our fourth Project Beta release and represents a major step forward in lacrosse head durability. The goal was simple but ambitious: improve the durability of one of the most popular lacrosse heads on the field, without adding weight.
Introducing Diamond Pro Plastic
To reach these goals, our engineers set out to research and test many different plastics. Eventually, their research led to what we are calling our Diamond Pro Plastic. This plastic checked all the boxes: it's stronger (2x stronger than our standard Diamond plastic), it's lighter, and it looks awesome. Even though it isn't crystal clear like our original Diamond plastic, it came with a unique look that caught a lot of eyes around our HQ.
Lab Testing Results: Stronger and Lighter
Once the Diamond Pro material was identified, we ran the material in our Ion tool and began testing the heads in our R&D lab. The results were incredible. We saw a huge jump in durability, and the weight was lower than our current Ions. While this was exciting, we have learned over the years that lab testing does not always mean on-field success. But it did provide us with the data we needed to move to the next phase of the project: Field Testing.
Field Tested by Top Lacrosse Players
Field testing began in April, with some of the top players in the country, and ran throughout the year. These players put their heads through the wringer, testing durability in real-game conditions, from cold early-season games to summer heat, on both grass and turf.
The Future of Project Beta Lacrosse Heads
With improved durability, reduced weight, and extensive lab and field testing, the Ion Beta lacrosse head represents the next evolution of Project Beta. Built with Diamond Pro Plastic and trusted by top players, it’s designed to perform at the highest level and set the foundation for future lacrosse head innovation.
